Could recurrent painful ophthalmoplegic neuropathy be caused by a neurovascular conflict?: A case report

Objective: Describe and discuss a typical case with recurrent painful ophthalmoplegic neuropathy (RPON), demonstrate likely extrinsic compression of the sixth cranial nerve by vascular loop. Background: RPON is rare, but well-known entity, characterized attacks ophthalmoplegia associated ipsilateral headache. The etiology unknown, neurovascular conflict (NVC) has been suggested as cause. Method: A 62-year-old woman presented in emergency department horizontal diplopia that developed few hours after onset left temporal In past she had to clinic same problem several times. She thoroughly examined, no cause found. symptoms resolved themselves. addition classic finding RPON, gadolinium enhancement thickening nerve, new MRI scanning detected an NVC.
